Frederick Schuett

Frederick is the Climbing Director of ONE AXE Pursuits. Frederick has over 12 years of instructional experience in the climbing industry. He is highly skilled and has had training through Yamnuska Inc., P.A.K.A.K Technical High Angle Ropes Rescue and Conestoga College’s Adventure Begins climbing courses. He has an Advanced Wilderness First Aid Certificate through McMaster University. Frederick is also a mountain guide and he has lead and co-led many mountain expeditions in Canada and around the world. He was also the team leader and summit sponsor for the second annual Children’s Foundation Klimb4Kidz charity expedition. Frederick designed the Treehugger in response to the environmental issues pertaining to protecting the cedar trees along the Niagara Escarpment. He has also worked with the University of Guelph’s Cliff Ecology Research Group as a Ropes Specialist and Research Assistant. Frederick’s professionalism and superior instruction have brought corporate team building groups and individuals back for more adventure each year.

Christa Niravong

Christa is a McGill University graduate who studied abroad In Paris and Shanghai. Her international experience (30+ countries), and her ability to speak 5 languages have given her insight into the global marketplace. Her experience as a teacher in private school and university complements her seven years of experience in corporate coaching and facilitation. Christa has been an avid climber since 2000. She has trekked around the world, from the Arctic to Antarctica as well as climbed mountains in British Columbia, Mexico, China, and Argentina.

Martin Bonert

Martin is a graduate of the University of Toronto in engineering as well as a MBA at the Schulich School of Business. He has formal climbing certification and has been instructing rock climbing for over four years. He speaks German and French and also instructs SCUBA. Martin enjoys traveling, whitewater kayaking, sailing, snowboarding and astronomy.

Tobin Day

Tobin is a Lakehead University graduate with a joint degree in Outdoor Recreation and Natural Science. She has her Bachelor of Education at U of T OISE/UT. She organized and ran a climbing club at the linden school in toronto. She climbs outdoors consistently throughout the summer months. Tobin is also an avid paddler who has paddled the Thelon. She currently teaches science and outdoor education in Bluewater District School Board.

Caleb Domsy

Caleb has a passion for traditional climbing. His love for leading trad has taken him traveling to British Columbia, Alberta, the Adirondacks of upstate New York, and to the Eardley Escarpment in Quebec. Although Caleb has experienced some of the best climbing in Canada on the 700 metre tall Chief, near the city of Squamish, he still calls the many crags of Ontario his home. Caleb’s wealth of experience in high places gives him a comfortable and well-paced teaching style that endears him to many of our clients.

Nathan Douglas

Nathan is a graduate of the University of Waterloo, with over seven years of experience in top rope climbing and bouldering. He loves rock climbing and has climbed all over the Niagara Escarpment and Bon Echo. He is a cross-country runner and has completed two marathons and two triathlons. He was a competitor in the Subaru Triathlon Series, achieving near leader performance at most competitions. He also enjoys cycling, kayaking, hiking, camping, and competitive swimming.

Bruce Erickson

Bruce grew up climbing on the flat prairies, making trips to the hard granite rocks of Northwestern Ontario whenever possible. He has taught rocking climbing in Manitoba, Alberta and Ontario throughout the past ten years. With a degree from Lakehead University in Outdoor Recreation and a candidate for the PhD program, he is also currently teaching at York University. Bruce has also lead numerous outdoor adventures and outdoor leadership programs ranging from 1 afternoon to 42 days. He also has a passion for canoeing, whitewater kayaking, and cross-country skiing.

Robert Ferguson

Robert started free climbing over water in Rockwood and Georgian Bay over 20 years ago. He enjoys rock climbing, ice climbing, rappelling, and caving. He has climbed North America’s third highest mountain El Pico de Orizaba in Mexico. Robert is also a downhill ski instructor and SCUBA Divemaster. He has a passion for martial arts. He has lived in China, Mexico, and Jamaica.

David Jeffries

David is a graduate of the Algonquin College Outdoor Adventure Program. He has worked with Outward Bound Canada as Senior Counsellor of the Eco-venture Camps. He has climbed for over 6 years and has instructed for over three years. He has completed a 5-day ski traverse of the Wapta Icefields in Banff National Park. He has reached the summit of Mt. Gordon and Mt. Olive in Alberta through ski-mountaineering. David also enjoys whitewater kayaking and canoeing.

Julia Trutiak

Julia’s passion for climbing began when she was just a kid at summer camp. It has now blossomed into a passion she cannot give up. Her latest climbing excursions brought her down to Kentucky where she put all her climbing finesse to work. Julia has a degree in outdoor recreation and tourism as well as geography from Lakehead University. Before coming to ONE AXE Julia worked as a raft guide in Alberta, British Columbia, and the North West Territories.

Nikolas Trutiak

Nik is an outdoor enthusiast who has been climbing since his early teens and has worked as a river guide on the Nahanni and numerous rivers around Alberta. Having now completed his undergraduate degree in aerospace engineering and a graduate degree in biomedical engineering, Niks attention is again focussed on reaching those places few have gone before and taking others along for the ride.

Stefan Pettersson

Stefan has over 10 years of climbing experience in both rock and ice. He has made it to the summit of Mt. Washington, Denali, Kilimanjaro as well as several peaks in the Canadian and American Rockies. He is the founder of the Klimb4Kidz charity, which raises funds for the Children’s Foundation in Wellington County. He also enjoys playing hockey, camping, hiking and you can often see him climbing with his daughter at the local gym.

Adam Mitchell

Adam has been climbing since 1996 in a number of places including Kentucky, West Virginia and Ontario. He is a graduate of Sir Sandford Flemming college with a certificate in arboriculture. Adam has a love for the outdoors and spends as many days away from the concrete jungle as possible. Besides climbing Adam often finds himself mountain biking, hiking, canoeing or kayaking, skiing and snow boarding.

Ryan Strohmaier

Ryan started climbing at the age of 16. He never imagined that climbing would turn into a career where he could teach the one sport that excited him, regardless of where he was in the world. Teaching has also allowed him to improve his skills by helping others begin theirs. He has worked with ONE AXE since 2001. Ryan also has a love for mountains and has climbed Mt Rainier, Mt. Washington, and Mt McKinley.

Darren Pezzack

Darren is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario. He has made the summit of Mt. Rainier, Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. McKinley as well as many smaller peaks in Washington, California, and Alaska. Darren started working as an instructor for ONE AXE in 2010 and in 2011 to compliment his instructing duties started to work in the office . He loves all types of climbing but spends most of his free time training and planning trips out into the big mountains.

Lauren Watson

It was a long road for Lauren as she battled with her addiction through years of arts school, a bachelor's degree, guiding white water rafting and kayaking expeditions. By 2008, however, the battle was lost; Climbing had quietly and methodically consumed her. She has since spent all of her time nursing her abilities and technical skills. Lauren has been climbing through the United States, western Canada, The UK, South America and Costa Rica, getting every kind of rock she can. It is the balance between mental and physical strength that keeps her intrigued however she still, to this day, claims that it was her uncanny strengths in childhood scrabble games that spurred the addiction. Her love of teaching and guiding have brought her back to southern Ontario in the hopes that she can share the magic of the rock with anyone who will let her.
